THE GOOD OLE BOYS ON THE COUNTY BOARD ARE AT IT AGAIN

As you may know by now on the agenda for next Tuesdays Winnebago County Board meeting are two resolutions to reduce the size of the Winnebago County Board for 2008. I use word the reduce very lightly, for one resolution calls for a reduction of 2 another a reduction of 6.

I believe both attempts are intended to circumvent the public putting a referendum on the ballot for the April election to reduce the size in 2008 to 19.

I will not support either resolution for this is no reduction these are attempts to try and do something and do as little as possible. I oppose this becuase there is to be a reduction in the size of the County Board before the next census the district must nearly equal in the number of people in each district and wards cannot be split up.

If for those reasons the public could not or should I say should not come up a size of 10 or 20 for the Winneabgo County Baord then how can the County Board make districts that are unequal which could cause a group to take the matter to court. Not a very good use of tax dollars to defend on action I find both illegal and unjust on why it is being presented.

I prefer if there is to be a reduction that it be 19, for I feel that makes everything fair in many respects. But I am willing to compromise to 25 the only other number ( based on data provided by the Winneabgo County's GIS department) where districts can be created that equal in size while keeping existing wards intact.

So I will not vote for either resolution. I may try amend one to make the size 25. A compromise to those who want to reduce the size and those who do not.
