RULES FOR LOCAL GOVERNING BOARDS--LET YOUR VIEWS BE KNOW AND HEARD

As you all well know next Tuesday April 1 is Election Day. I do encourage you all to go vote for who you want for Wisconsin State Supreme Court, District Court of Appeals, School Board, County Board Supervisor (for some of us) and constitutional amendment dealing with the Governor’s veto.

But after the election all local governing boards must have a meeting to reorganize themselves. This is where it elects leadership positions for the governmental body and the rules for which it will conduct themselves for the next year or two. This is what I would like to talk about with this entry.

Specifically I am talking about the governing body I am a member of, the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors. Each of the county board of supervisor candidates at the March 20, 2008 LWV-Oshkosh candidate forum (here is a link to the site to see it online http://www.oshkoshcommunitymedia.org/videostreaming.htm) said they be in favor of having committee meetings held in the later evening or afternoon. I am asking if you support this idea. I do, to contact your very own supervisor and/or write a letter to the editor to support this idea. If you get a response from your supervisor or supervisor-elect then let me know,

Also let me know and/or your county board supervisor know your feelings about the issue concerning the number of committees that the county board has for standing committees. Also if you feel there is should be changes to how we do the budget for the county. I feel we should hearings one week and vote on amendments and the final budget be voted the following week in the evening when the public can be more able to attend.

I love to hearing from you, and I think you should be heard on how the Winnebago County Board should be operating, its rules. I also state that you should also let your school board member and city council member know if there are rule changes that they should be looking at changing. It is your government is heard.

Let me know and your elected officials your views often and always.
