COMMUNTIES IN WINNEBAGO COUNTY AND RECYCLING

At the January 6, 2009 Winnebago County Board meeting were Jennifer Semrau Recycling Specialist for the Winnebago County Landfill made a presentation on Single Stream Recycling I asked her a question about what other communities in Winnebago County are doing regarding recycling.

Below is the response.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I had a number of meetings and out of office commitments this week.



Our recycling program services 15 of the 21 municipalities in Winnebago County. The Towns that do not use our program are Nepeuskun, Oshkosh, Poygan, Rushford, Utica and Winchester. I believe the population of these municipalities represents about 5% of the County.



Presently none of the communities in Winnebago County utilize single stream recycling and only City of Menasha utilizes automation (for trash). The Towns of Menasha and Neenah use bins for their recyclables, but do allow overflow recyclables in bags. I believe all the other answers to your questions would be found on the attached spreadsheet which we put together in fall of 2008 for the Solid Waste Management Board.



The City of Oshkosh will be having a workshop discussing automation and single stream recycling with its Council on 1/27. John Rabe and myself will be in attendance at the request of Oshkosh Public Works and will hopefully be able to aid in discussion. The attached spreadsheet lists Oshkosh as single stream and automated in 2009 based on information they have provided us, but clearly that is presently under discussion and may change.
